Moreton Bay (1): Windy Redcliffe

For our 2018 year-end holiday, and using our usual planning formula, we booked flights to Brisbane, Australia. We decided later that we wanted to explore the hinterlands after reading about the beautiful walks, instead of the city and the coasts. So we got ourselves a nice house at Mango Hill, and explore the Moreton Bay region for a few days.

After arriving at our Airbnb, we took time to settle down and made our first shopping trip to West Field North Lake shopping centre, as well as to get some groceries for our trip. We took a late afternoon stroll to the Redcliffe Jetty nearby. What surprised us was the 50km/h winds.

The Historic Redcliffe Jetty

Bracing strong winds seemed to be fun. After assessing that it is still in the safe zone, we head out into the Pacific Ocean to the end of the jetty and looked back at the town from “afar” with the beautiful sunset at the backdrop.

Seeing the sun set into the sea is quite common, like in Perth or Darwin, looking towards the Indian Ocean. Seeing it from the “sea” and it sets on land is quite a new sight.

Bee Gees Way

We didn’t know that the famous Bee Gees band have spent their childhood at Redcliffe. A commemorative 70m walkway was built to honour Redcliffe’s most famous young residents who went on to be one of the top-selling bands of all time. We took our time walking through the life story of the Bee Gees using the remaining twilight.

I can completely understand why my kids were all not interested, the Bee Gees were not their generation, not even mine. But the story was fascinating and inspiring. I may just pick up their music start loving them!

Then we settled for dinner at the Yabbey Road Fish and Chips, recommended by the locals. The children loved it, so I have no complaints.

Simple and relaxed day.
