Moreton Bay (5): Sunday Markets

Everywhere in Australia, you will have weekend markets. They are either touristy commercial ones or local farmers selling fresh produce. Since there will be a couple of weekends during this trip, we just head out to see what is there to offer for us, maybe to buy some fresh produce back to cook. Last Sunday, we have time to explore two of the more popular markets.

Redcliffe Jetty Market

Yes, back to Redcliffe again. The winds were still blowing and it rained when the market supposed to be opened. We parked nearby and we spent some time shopping Woolsworth indoors to avoid that rain. By 9:30 am, 1.5 hours after its opening time, the sun came out suddenly. We saw stores setting up in good moods.

Soon, from the cold morning winds to the warm late morning sun, we needed some cool serves. And we got some “rainbow ice” for the kids and fresh fruits for the adults. They had some live music too.

After some more foods like banana cakes and calamari, we head out to the next Sunday market.

Old Petrie Town Market

The Old Petrie Town was previously known as North Pine Country Park, similarly to Caboolture Historic Village, this area is a large complex with a collection of real historic buildings moved to the park and restored for heritage purposes. Today, this small town features a heritage hotel, cafes and shops in heritage houses and the largest collection of vintage fire engines in the “fire department”. Each Sunday, this place comes to life.

We had a good time walking around the historic town. The foods and “pre-loved” books stores kept us busy.

There was an old chapel building, a real Sunday service was conducted there too.

We walked through the museum that displayed a large collection of vintage trackers and engines. All free, but voluntary contributions were encouraged.

There was a mini food court in a barn shed. That was where we had our lunch and lots of blended ice drinks because it was much cheaper there.

Looked forward to the next weekend to visit markets elsewhere.

  1. Awesome blog! Do you have any tips and hints for aspiring writers? I’m hoping to start my own site soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you advise starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m totally confused .. Any suggestions? Many thanks!

    1. I used Bluehost with integrated WordPress tools. Very simply and you can tart right away after registration. But its not entire free, but not much.
